President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has accepted the resignation of Ishraque Hossain as State Minister for Liberation War Affairs.

The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification on Tuesday (October 20), formally confirming his departure from the government.

According to the notification signed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, the president accepted Ishraque’s resignation with immediate effect.

Following his resignation, the cabinet now has 50 members, including the prime minister, 26 other ministers and 23 state ministers.

Earlier, on Monday (October 19) afternoon, Ishraque, the lawmaker from Dhaka-6, formally announced his resignation at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club.

His resignation followed controversy over his participation in an anti-drug operation near railway tracks in the capital’s Gandaria area on Saturday (October 17), during which he was seen carrying a firearm.

Video footage of the incident circulated widely on social media, drawing criticism from different quarters.
