Meta says it complied with Brazil court order to treat candidates equally

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Oct 20, 2026 (BSS/AFP) – US tech giant Meta said Tuesday that it had complied with an order from Brazil’s electoral court demanding equal treatment for President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and right-wing challenger Flavio Bolsonaro in the country’s runoff election.

“We have completed the implementation of the measures to comply with the Superior Electoral Court’s decision,” Meta said in a statement, a day after the court gave the company 24 hours to prove it was treating the two candidates equally or face a daily fine of $200,000.
