International cooperation crucial for health, SDGs: Humaiun

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir today underscored the importance of international cooperation and multilateral partnerships in advancing global health and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He made the remarks during a meeting with World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to Bangladesh Dr Ahmed Jamsheed Mohamed at his office here, according to a Foreign Ministry press release.

During the meeting, they discussed issues of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on strengthening cooperation in public health, health security, disease prevention and access to essential health services.

Kobir appreciated WHO’s continued cooperation and support in strengthening Bangladesh’s health sector and addressing emerging public health challenges.

He stressed that enhanced international cooperation and effective multilateral partnerships are essential to advance health objectives while accelerating progress towards achieving the SDGs.

The WHO representative briefed the state minister on the organisation’s ongoing and planned cooperation with Bangladesh, including support for strengthening the health system, capacity building, disease surveillance and preparedness for public health emergencies.

Both sides expressed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation between Bangladesh and WHO.

They also agreed to maintain close coordination on issues of common interest at national, regional and international levels.
